The Arrival of the Friemily
I recently had some friemily come to visit the Mother City from somewhere near Pretoria. Freimily is the word I use to describe, people that are technically/legally related but I really don’t see often enough to care about, yet still manage to take advantage of my good nature only the way a real friend could. My lack of caring can be highlighted by the fact that I am not entirely sure where the particular band of friemily come from exactly.
So when I received the e-mail from auntie Daisy – that is her real name – asking me to help them find accommodation, which I knew was actually a thinly veiled request to stay at my house, I chose to ignore it. Unfortunately continuous phone calls from your mother are slightly more difficult to ignore. So when I eventually took the call she understandingly said that I really could just find them some Cape Townholiday accommodation and that I wouldn’t have to actually have these bumpkins staying in my house.
The Mother City has no shortage of good holiday accommodation but choosing the right type was an essentially delicate operation. It needed to be close enough so that I would be able to lift them easily, I had a horrible feeling they had no set itinerary and were planning on allowing me to entertain them. While searching through different options and trying to figure out the perfect strategy for dealing with the onslaught of the friemily, when I hit upon an ingenious plan, I would put them up in self-cateringaccommodation.
A fully furnished holiday apartment would provide them with entertainment and a sense of homeliness, meaning that hopefully they would feel less inclined to want to call me to take them on outings. A self-catering apartment would also mean that they could cook for themselves which means I wouldn’t have to have them around and it would be cheaper in the long run which meant that if we did go out together they might actually pay for something.
I managed to find them the perfect place in Sea Point, trendy enough to make their friends back in the sticks jealous, cheap enough to mean that I actually got treated to a meal as a thank you and central enough so that they weren’t calling me for lifts, most importantly though it was far enough away from me that they didn’t once come to visit.
I was actually blown away by the value for money we received which is why I decided to add this tab to my blog. There is so much great accommodation available in the Mother City, visitors don’t need to be staying in the massive impersonal hotels. So if you know of any places that deserve a shout out let me know or comment below. I found this accommodation through FZP an online booking agent.
